6Q Airsports - Equipment

6Q Airsports was built around the PW-5 or World Class Glider.

This sailplane was the winner of an international design contest for an FAI One Design Class. The glider has a 13.44 meter (44’) wingspan and a gross weight of 300 kg (660 lbs). There are more PW-5s registered in the United States then any other foreign built glider. The racing is competitive and the best pilot wins.

When there is not a PW race available, 6Q is entered into the Sports class which is the US handicapped racing class. Not as much fun as racing other PWs, but we are racing  which is the best training.

We also have access to an LS-4, one of the nicest handling machines I’ve ever flown, and the Post Mills Soaring Clubs HpH 304C. Kevin and Rick used the 304 to win the 2004 New England Gliding Championships Sports Class. Even with the highest handicap in the race they managed 3 day wins all on raw speed so the handicap just increased the point spread.
